Yes we did!

Shepard Fairey Progress poster

Poster art by Shepard Fairey

  1. A truly momentous day. Yes we can. Yes we did. Here's to moving forward!
    Thanks for a fantastic blog,
    A fellow SD Foodie

  2. YES WE DID!

A little recommendation, I found these to be so delicious and useful in my kitchen: http://bajoseasonedsalts.com/

  3. Thanks guys! - This poster art print was produced and sold by the Obey studio, and sold out within three hours after it was released, back in January. (The HOPE version was distributed by the campaign and is much more common.) I chose it because I truly believe that yesterday, we made PROGRESS. I just hope we can keep it up. It's a little depressing to think that so many people still chose to vote for McCain, especially given their reasons for that decision. The anti-intellectualism, misinformation and hatred that flourish within the conservative right are truly frightening to me.

I also wish the victory was not dampened by the bigotry displayed in the Prop 8 contest in CA. The campaign was based on misinformation and irrational hatred, and it appears many people bought into it or voted for religious reasons, which - can I just say - how backwards is that? Love thy neighbor, but only if he or she happens to be of the opposite sex? Please.

I have to wonder if there will be a challenge to this on the basis of separation of church and state, since it basically inserts a religious precept into the Constitution to overturn the judiciary. One thing's for sure, the fight's not over yet.

  4. As a young voter, this was the first time I actually felt giddy at casting my ballot. Given CA's history in presidential elections, I was more concerned about Prop 2 and 8.
My excitement over Obama's sweep and Prop 2's yes majority was dampened by the news that Prop 8 is likely to pass. How could we have made such a huge leap in voting in our first African American president, while simultaneously stifling the rights of gay friends and neighbors?
I'm hoping against hope that absentee ballots and mail-ins might bring us back to No on H8te.

  5. Yeah Obama! I am so happy! I am also very happy Prop 2 passed! Progress people progress. Someday we will also do away with Prop h8te and all will be well.
